About
COVID-19 hollowed out Auckland's events industry — the concerts, markets and gatherings that give a city centre its pulse. The Heart of the City Auckland brief asked how to turn that decline around, just as the Council was opening up new capital to revitalise the city's social landscape. My job was to answer it with a real business case.
I wrote it in character, as a consultancy called XTra Technologies pitching to project sponsor Martin Sneddon. Rather than a single idea, the report builds an argument: market analysis, assumptions and constraints, a macro-environment scan, stakeholder mapping, and a costed proposal — the kind of document a council or client could actually act on.
It all works toward one question:
“How do you bring a post-COVID Auckland back to life — and can new, emerging technology lead the way?”— the business case, in one line
Outcome
The answer is Activate Auckland Dynamic Intelligence (AADI): an AI-driven events platform spanning both a business-to-business and a business-to-consumer side, paired with a modernised physical-and-digital events infrastructure for the city. The report backs it with a full analysis — business needs and requirements, tangible and intangible business value, and appendices carrying a SWOT and a fishbone diagram.
The real work was structuring a persuasive argument and presenting it well: reading a live brief, applying information-systems frameworks, mapping stakeholders, and turning it all into a 13-page document designed to be read, not just marked.
